Northampton produced an outstanding show of spirit in the heat and altitude of Pretoria to beat Bulls 30-21 - with Tommy Freeman producing two tries.

Ulster, who were in a winning position into the second half against Bordeaux-Begles, rather got overtaken as their opponents scored 26 unanswered points to win 40-19 in Belfast.

And in the early evening double bill, Handre Pollard inspired Leicester to an emphatic 56-17 win over a bit of a second-string Sharks side. And Leinster made it two wins out of two in Pool Two by seeing off Clermont 15-7.

So, a recap on today's dramas so far...

Leicester full-back Freddie Steward, speaking to Premier Sports: "I'm enjoying my rugby. Cheiks [Michael Cheika] has done an amazing job building a brilliant culture and the lads are playing with smiles on faces.

"Whenever you play a South African team, you know there's going to be a challenge up front. Credit to the forwards, they did a brilliant job tonight."

Leicester fly-half Handre Pollard, the player of the match, speaking to Premier Sports: "There were patches where we played very well and at times we got a bit loose. It's a great win but there's always stuff we can do better.

"I thought our speed of ball was good, keeping the speed was not easy."

Asked whether he'd spoken to his South Africa team-mates who didn't make the trip with Sharks: "I had a big chat to the boys early in the week, they're soaking up the sun, getting ready for a big derby next week."

OK, not the strongest Sharks side in opposition - but that meant Leicester had to make a statement tonight. And they have.

Handre Pollard, sitting on the bench with a big grin on his face, is named the man of the match. If he didn't know already, he does now: Leicester is December is great.

For Sharks, Phatu Ganyane is on for Lappies Labuschagne.

Ben Youngs with a quick penalty as Sharks get into trouble playing out - with Emeka Ilione key to winning that penalty at the breakdown - James Whitcombe again drives for the line, but can't get over. He's just held up. Sharks prop Ntuthuno Mchunu is judged not to have retreated somewhere in there, and is yellow carded.

It wasn't pretty but Leinster have their second successive win in the Champions Cup.

A five minute flurry in the first half, with tries from Garry Ringrose Jordie Barrett ultimately proved the difference.

Plenty to work on for Leinster though, as they were far from their best.

Leicester pushing once more. Their scoring has slowed up in the second half, but they're just about up to the line - however, James Whitcombe can't quite take it over, and there's a knock-on that denies try number seven.

Ethan Hooker and Jordan Hendrikse are off for Sharks; Diego Appollis and Hakeem Kunene are on.

Leinster are pushing hard here for a third try with their raft of changes adding fresh legs against a tiring Clermont side.

Handre Pollard has enjoyed his evening, I think: One try, a further 12 points with the boot. He makes his exit to applause, with Nicky Smith also departing. James Whitcombe and Jamie Shillcock are on. Ethan Bester is on for Dylan Richardson at hooker for Sharks.

Leicester come out of a scrum, and Handre Pollard feeds Ollie Hassell-Collins, who bursts for the corner - but Sharks get two on him to force him into touch.

Heading into the last 10 minutes and Leinster's mascot is trying to whip the crowd up as the hosts push to add to their lead.

It's been an underwhelming encounter so far, with handling errors from both sides aplenty.

Now a Sharks change. Tino Mavesere - nicknamed 'the Driller' - is on at flanker and Phepsi Buthelezi, the captain, is off.

A bit of a worry for Leinster as the impressive Sam Prendergast appears to have sustained a knock and is replaced by Ross Bryne.

Prendergast doesn't look too comfortable as he makes his way off.
