Courtney Clarke made 42 appearances for Eastbourne Borough

Walsall have signed Courtney Clarke from Eastbourne Borough after the wing-back turned down the offer of a new deal with the non-league club.

The 22-year-old moves to the League Two side on a two-year contract after the Saddlers agreed an undisclosed compensation package.

Clarke, who had a spell on the books at Derby County as a teenager, won Eastbourne's young player of the year award in his only season with the National League South side.

He is the first g made by Walsall since they were consigned to another campaign in League Two after losing the play-off final against AFC Wimbledon last month.

"He had a fantastic season at Eastbourne and started to grab the attention of people looking in that direction," Walsall head coach Mat Sadler told the club website.

"He fits the mould of exactly the type of player we bring to the club – young, hungry and wanting to get better.
